President Trump threatens not just war crimes but also what sounds like genocide, saying that in Iran "a whole civilization will die tonight." This is obviously morally repugnant and also raises alarms about the mental stability of a man who controls nuclear weapons.

Trump's threat is counterproductive, playing into regime narratives about Western exploitation. Iranians are justly proud of their rich civilization--one reason they deplore their regime--so how can they not be repulsed by barbaric Western threats to destroy their civilization?

Making Khamenei a Martyr
Very, very pertinent point regarding the killing of and making #Khamenei a Martyr. Based on my experiences during the Lebanese Civil War, I add that it is difficult for the Western linear mind to comprehend what Martyrdom means in the theological makeup of a Shiite mind.
#Martyrdom is viewed through the lens of Hussein's sacrifice at #Karbala. The 'sense' of it goes deeper than that of #SunniTerrorism, often rooted in ideological strands and prioritising political goals. Or of #ZionistTerrorism, also a political ideology.
In contrast, Martyrdom calls on Shiites to self-sacrifice for justice against tyranny. The rationalist Western mind underestimates its emotional and mobilising power.
Ultimately, #America might pay for this decapitation, making Khamenei the first Martyr in 1400 years. Shirreff's warning to the UK applies equally to Australia.

Makes sense. This plausible proposal is totally consistent with the fact that there has been no #ProPalestinian demonstration in #SaudiArabia - or at least none that has been covered by media sympathetic to it.
